Dignabbit, kids these days

So I was at the grocery store today and I saw this old guy wearing an Ozzfest t-shirt. I mean, not an ancient guy... but a normal-looking middle-management-looking kind of guy with a beer gut and a bad haircut, a grumpy wife and a whiny kid. Old-looking for an Ozzfest shirt.

And not three minutes later there was this other old guy with a B-52s shirt stretched across his belly. He didn't have gray hair or anything like that; he was just—you know, not a kid.

Not that Ozzy hasn't been performing since the late '60s (when I was 8 or 9), and the B-52s since the mid-'70s (when I was 14 or 15). I got all the way down to the frozen food section before realizing that those old guys were both without a doubt younger than me. Which pretty much sucked.

Chitchat:

Yeah, just you wait until you spend an afternoon trying to explain to a younger cow-orker what the differences between EPs, LPs and singles were, or the difference between 45s and albums, or the difference between 12-inches and 7-inches (I know, I know, keep your mind out of the gutter!)...

My dear friend Myra, only a few years younger than me, recently had a twenty-something start a story "Well, he's kind of a hipster - oh wait, do you know what a hipster is?"

Welcome to fogey-ville. When you see dirt at the meeting, remind him that he's still older than us - but that we're catchimg up fast.

RAMALAMF, baby!
