"Succumbing to competition from the superstores, 40 percent of America's independents have failed since 1993, and their overall share of the business has fallen from 33 percent to 15 percent. The attrition slowed in 2000, in part because 1,200 stores joined BookSense (www.booksense.com), a national marketing program sponsored by the American Booksellers Association that lets consumers buy online through any of it members." From the article: "Among the act's broad definitions of domestic terrorism is 'acts [that] appear to be intended to... influence the policy of government by intimidation.'"
