Here you go. This is it. This is what it looked like inside the wall. Glowing red smoldering parts with smoke coming off, and black burnt parts, but mostly bright unburned unsmoldering parts... all right next to each other.
The one thing about it that a photo can't really convey is that it's a lot hotter than it looks.
A nice hunk of smoldering straw right after it was pulled from the wall. In this shot, and even more so in the next one, you can see how abruptly it goes from burnt to not-burnt.
I pulled this little bit of an edge of a flake of straw from the wall after everything was over.
Maybe the most interesting thing, for me, was seeing the effect the fire had on a piece of a straw-clay wall: It went totally black and crumbly. It looks like coffee grounds. |
