There seems to be a growing consensus that a clay-slip coat increases adhesion of earthen plasters to straw bales. Some people like to apply it with a drywall texture gun. Others make the slip thicker and apply it by hand.

| Making a rammed earth column. It was unstabilized, and one of four to be used in a roof-bearing capacity for a building. I have to admit that I wasn't comfortable with the idea, but people have told me that similar-sized unstabilized rammed earth columns are being used in that capacity at some ecovillage or other in Colorado. I'd like to find out where and go see. |
