A crack in the lime plaster on the top edge of the wall from the junction of the lime and earth finishes. The supposition is that rain soaked into the earthen substrate and expanded it, causing the lime to crack (and creating more moisture problems). Makes sense enough. This opens up a bunch of questions about techniques and climate considerations when thinking about lime-over-earth.

A crack in the lime at the "dribble-cap." How did this one happen? (It should be noted that the only cracks in the lime on the sides of the wall were at junctions of dissimilar substrate mixes.)

The earth-finished part of the wall had a top cap made out of about 4" of very straw-rich cob. The cap was completely dry.

Bob Bolles having a hard time removing the earthen plaster. It was exceedingly well-integrated with the straw bales.
