RE: EARTHLANDS FACILITIES DESIGN CHARRETTE - THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12TH - 2006
Earthlands, a regional sustainable living center in Petersham, MA is about to embark on a new and exciting project - The University of the Wild. As you know, there is a need for an alternative Higher Education program and curriculum that will truly develop Global Citizens who possess an ecocentric worldview.
The new University of the Wild, proposed to open as a pilot semester in the Fall of 2007, is a mentored, self-directed curriculum and learning community designed to develop an Ecological Global Citizen. Part of the two-year program will be a resident semester at Earthlands in Massachusetts.
The curriculum is coming together and the entire program is gaining international recognition. The experiential-based curriculum is founded on Permaculture and Deep Ecology principles and practices. The challenge is to alter and in some places, construct new facilities that will integrate the curriculum, engage the Learning Community, and represent the "State-of-the-Art" green building and design principles.
At this early phase in the development process, we wish to get input from a range of qualified Green Building professionals, like yourself. We have designed a one-day Charrette to get some of the best "design and building minds" together to discuss a wide range of topics related to the facilities - from curriculum to design and from building practices to materials used. It is important to come onto Earthland's physical site to best suggest an appropriate use of the land and buildings.
